We Masturb*te Too Much (It's Not What You Think)
There's a very simple problem that holds you (and 99% of people) back from achieving their dreams.
When I get on a call with someone and they tell me about their challenges, inevitably they say some version of the following:
"This has been going on for so long. I've read this book/watched this video/listened to this podcast and it's given me some great ideas, but..."
Most people struggle with the same patterns for years - their sex life isn't passionate anymore, their business doesn't grow fast enough, they don't feel truly confident in themselves, they don't draw healthy boundaries, and so on...
They read, watch, and listen to tons of content. They're in the "information stage" and "need some time to figure things out."
Harsh truth: This is mental masturbation - wasting energy without getting anywhere.
And I don't blame you one bit for it because I've done the same thing.
I've spent 100s of hours consuming content about dating and online money until I finally acted on it. Once I did, it took me a few weeks to get more dates and start making cash.
That's why I can say that 95% of the time you spend "reading up" and "figuring it out" is wasted.
Every second you spend acquiring information is a second you never put into creating change.
"But I want to make sure I get it right!"
Yeah, you don't want to waste your time and energy doing the wrong thing.
But not doing a thing is doing the wrong thing.
Take action and you'll figure out the right path 100x faster than by "gathering your thoughts."
The ego tells you it's better to wait, go slowly, and play it small. It wants you to stay in your comfort zone to protect you from potential hurt. It tells you that you "need to know more."
But you can spend the next ten years consuming information and not be one step further.
You need to take action, even if the limiting beliefs pop up like mushrooms after a rain.
"My situation is different, I actually need to know more, I can't because..."
No. Let go of that. These thoughts do not serve you.
They're just more convenient than rolling up your sleeves and doing the difficult stuff.
Mental masturbation or creating real change?
The choice is yours.
Me finally taking the jump instead of thinking about how to do it.
Secret Sauce - This Week's Question:
We all have something we're mentally masturbating on.
Look at your goals - where do you need to take more action instead of reading, listening, and watching?
Where do you exactly know what to do yet still don't act on it?
What have you been mentally masturbating about?
Once you've figured that out, stop consuming information and use the time to take action instead.
That will get you further than anything else.
🙏
