The Hardest Thing Any Ambitious Man Needs To Master
When I looked in the mirror, I was shocked.
I stared at a version of myself I'd rather not have seen. Wrinkles. Unkempt hair. Dark bags under my eyes.
"I need a break."
For weeks, I had been running on resources I didn't have, full of worries and stress.
LinkedIn didn't let me log into my account - great if you run a large part of your business through it
Building my in-depth coaching program was much more work than I thought
An Airbnb I booked had fallen through and I needed to get a replacement asap
So I did what I always did - I pushed harder.
I tend to get obsessed with problems. I bite into them and run against the same wall again and again until I break through. But sometimes, the wall doesn't break - I do.
I fell victim to the same fallacies as every business owner.
I held the beliefs that:
If I don't work, my business won't grow
If I stop pushing hard, I'll become lazy
I can rest once this is done (I kept replacing this with whatever task came up next)
One of the hardest things for any ambitious man is to stop feeling guilty about taking time off.
That's why I took a big gulp of my own medicine and did what I was most afraid of - I took a short vacation even though not all the problems were solved.
When I came back:
My LinkedIn account worked again
I could finish my program quickly because I had more energy
My Airbnb host had messaged me to give me another apartment
I know this sounds almost too good to be true - but what if life was easy?
What if you didn't have to struggle all the time?
What if the nagging voice that constantly told you to "do more" held you back from actually achieving more?
You want to get your business to the next level, to have "made it," and to be at peace because you can finally afford the lifestyle you want.
You go through challenge after challenge, endure the pain, and go at it day after week after month after year.
That's great. Putting in the work is essential to building something amazing. And I'm rooting for you.
But I've learned that you need to allow yourself to rest when you need it.
Sometimes, that's the hardest thing to do because you're afraid of what will happen if you let go.
That's the way the ego works - making you afraid of breaking your old patterns.
Don't listen to it.
Give yourself a break when you need it.
Allow things to be easy.
Me enjoying a Carajillo - a cocktail made of coffee and Licor 43 last weekend. Tastes like vacation.
Secret Sauce - This Week's Challenge:
Do you feel like you've been hitting the same wall?
Have you worked on something super hard yet still struggle with it?
Is there a problem in your business you don't know how to solve?
Give yourself permission to rest. Take a few days off. Let go of it.
Relax. Recharge. Reset.
The world will keep on turning - and you'll come back with more energy and fresh ideas.
🙏
