How To Change Your Identity (Quickly)

I recently heard a question that stopped me dead in my tracks.

"How fast can you change your identity?

The guy who asked it was Andy Elliot, an entrepreneur with over $100 million net worth who's trained over a million salespeople.

This question is so powerful because any change you want in your business or life really comes down to this:

You need to become the person who has what you want in order to get it.

This means that to get your business to the next level, you need to behave like someone who is already on that level.

Why?

Because when you think, decide, and act like that future version of yourself that you want to be...

...there is nothing holding you back from becoming it.

You will sell, show up, hire, think, build, strategize etc. like that person and you will get the same results.

I've seen it over and over again with all the people I've worked with.

Internal change creates external results.

The good news? This is entirely in your power. It's doable. You can.

So how do you change your identity (and with it, your behaviors, actions, decisions, and results) as quickly as possible?

  1. Make a conscious decision about what your new identity looks like

Think about the version of you that already has everything they want - how do they feel, behave, think, and show up? What have they let go of? What have they learned? What traits do they have?

  2. Replace the limiting beliefs anchoring you to your old identity

These are the thoughts that tell you why you can't be the new person and reach your goals. E.g. "I don't deserve this/I can't do this/it's not possible/what will others think." Let go, replace, and evolve them into better beliefs.

  3. Start thinking, feeling, and acting like the person who has what you want

Step into your new self. Build the right habits to cement your new identity. Keep your mental diet clean and take actions that are aligned with your goals. Consciously choose to be the person you want to be.

Me smiling because I’ve been working on my inner world.

“Your level of success will rarely exceed your level of personal development because success is something you attract by the person you become.”

Mainstream advice tells you to simply "do what it takes" if you want to be successful - and it's not wrong. But the faster and more sustainable way is to change your identity.

It's about becoming the person you need to be.

It's about creating the reality you want on the inside rather than forcing things into place on the outside.

Internal change creates external results.

So go and start there.
